WISE OWL FILMS LANDS THREE MORE SERIES OF SKY ARTS’ GUY GARVEY: FROM THE VAULTS

Wise Owl Films has been commissioned to make three more series of the Sky Arts music documentary brand Guy Garvey: From The Vaults.

In each of the 15 new episodes, Elbow frontman Guy Garvey curates more clips of his favourite songs and performers from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties from shows all found in the ITV Archive.

The series unearths both studio performances (including some which never made it to air) and revealing interviews that have in some cases remained on the Archive’s shelves for decades.

The clips come from programmes made by ITV companies around the country – from Granada Television’s Celebration and The Other Side of Midnight to Tyne Tees’ Razzmatazz, the Central TV kids show Tiswas to LWT’s Night Network and Supersonic - chronicling not just changing musical tastes from punk to funk, reggae to Britpop, but an evolution in the UK’s social and cultural history too.

In each episode, Guy gives his personal take on the tracks from a year or musical genre, as we hear about the performers who inspired his own song-writing career.

Guy Garvey says: “I’ve always been obsessed with recording and capturing moments in time with sound and pictures. We only have the last 100 years documented in that way and as the seconds, minutes, days, months and years tick away the value of these vital social documents climb and climb”.

“The reason I love making From The Vaults is that it’s not just “look at the way we were” but “look at how we got here”. I’m delighted to be going back into the music archives once again for this series”.

Wise Owl Films’ Creative Director and Executive Producer Mark Robinson comments:

“We have been delighted by music fans’ reactions to the first two series – these moments tell the story of a time when live music was a daily occurrence on British television, from kids TV to chat shows, arts series to even at the end of regional TV news. It’s rewarding to have a format that enables us to pluck them out of the past and share them with Sky Arts’ viewers – it’s like seeing old friends for the first time in decades”.

The next new series of Guy Garvey: From the Vaults will air later this year on Sky Arts, Freeview and NOW.

Guy Garvey: From The Vaults was commissioned by Barbara Lee for Sky Arts is series produced by Kerry Allison and executive produced by Mark Robinson with Andy Beckett as archive producer.
