About Wise Owl Films

Wise Owl Films is a multi-award winning team of programme makers from across many different genres of factual and factual entertainment television – from surprising ob doc series about life in an ever-changing Britain to shows celebrating our popular culture, and social histories revealing untold stories about our nation.

Our ‘real world’ projects include the BBC2 series Yorkshire Firefighters, filmed during the pandemic; Channel 4’s Second-Hand For 50 Grand, about the boom in the pre-owned luxury goods market, the Channel 4 property format My Second Hand Home, and the ITV series The Metro: A Rail Life Story.

Leaders in shows celebrating popular culture, over the last 20 years the team behind Wise Owl have worked with some of Britain’s best-loved talent, including Trevor McDonald, David Jason, Peter Kay and most recently the Yorkshire Shepherdess on the More4 series Amanda Owen’s Farming Lives.

Experts in music and social history, we brought the When....Came To Britain series to BBC2, telling the stories of Bob Marley, Nirvana, Tina Turner and Motown; we revealed hidden archive treasures in Guy Garvey: From The Vaults on Sky Arts and told the tale of one of the most influential clubs in British history in BBC2’s The Hacienda: The Club That Shook Britain.

In 2022 Wise Owl announced a spin-off division - Hoot, responsible for youth-orientated projects like Box Fresh for Channel 4.O.
