NEW SERIES OF WISE OWL’S HIT SKY ARTS SERIES LANDS TODAY

News

Five new episodes of the Sky Arts music documentary series, Guy Garvey: From The Vaults are available from today.

The Elbow frontman has curated a further five hours of his favourite artistes and songs from the Seventies and Eighties, with the new series continuing to uncover rare and previously unseen footage.

The first series, which aired in 2020, included unseen performances by music icons including Kate Bush, and the new episodes will also unearth rare concert and studio performances and revealing interviews that have stayed hidden on the shelves for decades.

Like series one, the second series is also centred around shows which were made by ITV companies around the country – from Central TV’s Revolver to Border TV’s Bliss and Tyne Tees Television’s The Tube - chronicling not just changing musical tastes but the evolution in the UK’s social and cultural history too.

This time the series features the musical sights and sounds of 1978, 1980, 1983, 1985 and 1987, featuring emerging musical genres including the British Ska Revival, Britfunk, gothic rock and the political pop sounds of the early 80s.

With each episode concentrating on a different 12 months in rock history, once again Guy gives his personal take on the tracks from that year, as we hear about the songs and artistes from across many musical genres who have inspired his own song-writing career.

Mark Robinson - Wise Owl Films’ Creative Director and Executive Producer on Guy Garvey: From The Vaults – said:

“For music fans who grew up in the Seventies and Eighties – as well as for younger fans of classic rock and pop - this new series will deliver more of our favourite artistes and songs, in five shows packed full of rare and unseen clips.

“It was a joy to work again with the ITV Archive team in Leeds, to deliver another series full of brilliant performances and revealing interviews from series like Bliss, Revolver, Alright Now and Night Network – shows which might not be quite as famous as other music titles like The Tube and So It Goes, but ones which still produced great moments we can enjoy again decades on”.

This new series has been produced by Kerry Allison and Rick Goodwin.

Guy Garvey: From the Vaults airs weekly from Friday 2nd July at 8pm on Sky Arts, free for everyone to watch on Freeview Channel 11. Sky customers can view all five episodes from Friday 2ndJuly.
